A kick with consequences
Curious! Bayern coach Tuchel injured during speech
Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel suffered a curious injury before the 3:0 win in the Champions League round of 16 second leg against Lazio Rome. During his motivational speech on Tuesday evening, he showed full physical commitment - but it had consequences.
An unusual sight - Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel sat on the bench for 90 minutes against Lazio. The reason: he had to rest his foot. "The motivational speech before the game cost me my right toe," explained the limping coach on Prime Video. "I kicked it somewhere."
Broken toe
Shortly afterwards, the 50-year-old had to be treated by medical staff. "I didn't have the courage to get out of the boot because I was worried that I wouldn't be able to get back in," said Tuchel, who was barely able to walk without pain after the final whistle. "The team don't even know yet, they were probably surprised that I sat for 90 minutes."
According to CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen, who spoke to Tuchel, the toe is broken. "It's very painful. I was happy to make the sacrifice," said Tuchel.
Müller: "There's always a bit of loss"
After the game, midfielder Joshua Kimmich described how Tuchel had kicked a door during his speech. And Thomas Müller joked: "There's always a bit of wastage. Professional sport is always close to the bone. We just don't do it with fruit tea." Logically, Bayern were in a really good mood after the 3-0 win and the associated quarter-final place.
