A new primary care center is intended to counteract the shortage of doctors, and living together for old and young also solves many everyday problems.

Two of today's challenges are to be tackled with a project in Amstetten. According to the latest plans, a primary care center (PVZ) and an intergenerational housing project are to be built in the so-called Schwesternturm - a ten-storey building in the immediate vicinity of the provincial hospital.

The medical center is intended to alleviate the shortage of doctors in the district capital. It builds on the positive experiences of the PVZ Mauer, whose young team of doctors also reduces the gaps in the weekend on-call service. "There are various approaches to further developing medical care in Amstetten, which is why we also want to plan for a joint practice here," says local health councillor Claudia Weinbrenner (ÖVP).

Intergenerational living
When it comes to housing, the aim is also to meet current requirements. "Although the classic extended family of the past hardly exists anymore, the needs have remained the same. For example, there are senior citizens who look after the youngest members of the family and need support with everyday life in old age," reports Deputy Mayor Markus Brandstetter. For this reason, young and old will have separate residential units, but will be able to meet in communal areas.

Following repeated discussions in the past about the use of the council-owned property, including the Sisters' Tower, the ÖVP says that the future project is now to be prepared in a working group with all parliamentary groups. This will be followed by an architectural competition and the search for a partner to implement the project.
