Drama on a farm:
Six-year-old falls into slurry pit and dies
A six-year-old has died in an accident on a farm in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein. The boy had fallen unnoticed into a slurry tank.
According to NDR, the grandparents had missed the child on Sunday afternoon and alerted the police. The boy had been visiting the grandparents' farm in Osterhever in the district of Nordfriesland, reported the "Bild" newspaper.
Help came too late
The police and fire department arrived with a large contingent and searched intensively for the child. During the operation, the slurry tank on the site was also pumped out. Firefighters discovered the lifeless body of the six-year-old. Around three hours after receiving the emergency call, emergency services rescued the child from the pit. A doctor was only able to determine his death.
According to reports, it is still unclear exactly how the accident occurred and how the boy died. The foul gases from the pit alone could have been fatal.
