At least 15 children have died of malnutrition and dehydration in the Kamal Adwan hospital in the Gaza Strip in recent days. This was announced by the health authority of the militant Palestinian organization Hamas. Meanwhile, the UN is complaining about the catastrophic supply situation for the civilian population.

It fears for the lives of six other children who are in intensive care and suffering from malnutrition and diarrhea. Shortly before, the UN Security Council in New York had called for immediate aid in the Gaza war. "The parties were urged not to withhold basic supplies and humanitarian assistance from civilians in the Gaza Strip," it said in a statement published on Saturday (local time). The US began dropping food and supplies in Gaza on Saturday, as announced by President Joe Biden (see video above).

"Exposed to acute food insecurity"
In their statement, the Council members expressed their "grave concern" that the more than two million residents of Gaza could be exposed to "alarming levels of acute food insecurity". The statement also called on Israel to keep the border crossings open for humanitarian aid and to allow additional crossings to be opened.

Crowdscause deaths during aid convoy
According to the Israeli military, the deaths of dozens of Palestinians during the planned distribution of aid in the Gaza Strip on Thursday were caused by crowds. Contrary to what Hamas claimed, most of the deaths were not due to shots fired by the Israeli military, a military spokesman said on Sunday.

Rather, most of the victims had been crushed in the crowd from which Israeli soldiers had been attacked. They had then fired warning shots and shot individual looters who had threatened the soldiers. This was the result of a preliminary investigation by the military, which is to be followed by a further investigation by an independent commission.

UN deplores catastrophic supply situation
According to the Palestinian authorities, more than 30,000 inhabitants of the Gaza Strip have been killed since the beginning of the Gaza war. Large parts of the infrastructure for the 2.3 million people in the densely populated coastal strip have been destroyed. The UN is complaining of a catastrophic supply situation for the civilian population.

Hamas terrorists and other extremist groups killed hundreds of people and abducted around 250 hostages in the Gaza Strip during the attack on southern Israel on October 7. According to Israeli estimates, there are probably around 100 living hostages still held by Hamas.
