City of Hallein wants to take over retirement home
"I want to take matters back into my own hands." Hallein's mayor Alexander Stangassinger (SPÖ) has a clear plan. He wants the municipality to take over the town's retirement home as quickly as possible.
The current operator is the Red Cross with its "Pro Humanitate" organization. Stangassinger: "If the municipality has the reins in its hands, it can make its own decisions more quickly." The city could terminate the contract with the Red Cross at the end of the year. "After a one-year transition period, everything could be completed in 2026," says the city boss.
Due to staff shortages, there have been repeated problems at the Hallein home, with many beds having to remain free - as reported by the "Krone" newspaper. Stangassinger: "The situation has improved, but is still far from satisfactory."
