In India, a freight train ran 70 kilometers without a driver on Sunday. The train, which was loaded with gravel, had become independent at a station in northern India. It was eventually brought to a halt by wooden blocks on the tracks.

According to local media reports, the train had started moving at a station in Jammu, where it had stopped for a staff change. After the driver and his assistant got off, the train simply continued on the sloping track. To prevent accidents, all level crossings on the line were closed.

Speeding to Punjab
The ghost train, which was loaded with gravel, was speeding from the state of Jammu and Kashmir to Punjab at a speed of 100 kilometers per hour. After 70 kilometers, it was brought to a halt by wooden blocks on the tracks.

Investigation ordered
According to initial information, no one was injured in the incident. Many users of online platforms shared videos of the wrong turn. How the train was able to travel so far without a driver is now to be investigated. "We have ordered an investigation," said a spokesperson for Northern Railways, India's regional rail operator.

The railroad is India's most important means of long-distance transportation and carries millions of passengers every day. The system is outdated and dilapidated, although the government has already invested money in stations and signaling systems.
