Major search operation for man in southern Burgenland

A major search operation was carried out on Monday around Welgersdorf (Oberwart district) in Burgenland for a 60-year-old man who had been missing since Sunday morning. Police, fire department and rescue dog squadron were deployed. However, the man could only be found dead.

The man went for a walk on Sunday morning. When he did not return, his son informed the police. The missing man was diabetic and may not have had an insulin syringe with him, as his son told the "Krone" newspaper. The man had also left his cell phone at home. 

Search operation with drones
The police immediately launched a search operation with a helicopter, which was aborted without success. The search operation was continued on Monday morning. More than a dozen police officers and three fire departments with drones were deployed. The area around Welgersdorf was divided into several search sections and was then combed through in a targeted manner. In the end, however, the man could only be found dead around midday.
