Skier (55) now deceased after crash on piste
Sad news from the Innsbruck clinic! The 55-year-old Swede who crashed his skis into two other winter sports enthusiasts in front of his daughter last Tuesday in Sölden, Tyrol, has now succumbed to his serious injuries.
On Tuesday morning, the 55-year-old was skiing downhill with his daughter on a red slope on the Tiefenbachferner in Sölden on the right-hand side of the piste with short turns. In the course of this run, he wanted to avoid a 34-year-old German woman and a 35-year-old German man who were standing on the right-hand edge of the piste.
Lost ski was fatal
One of the Swede's skis came loose, causing him to fall and crash into the two Germans. The 34-year-old and the 35-year-old were slightly injured in the accident and received first aid from the piste rescue team.
The Swede suffered serious injuries and was flown by rescue helicopter to Innsbruck Hospital in a critical condition after initial treatment. The man died there.
