Water rescuer as guardian angel for 7-year-old boy

It was a last-second rescue. A boy (7) was in danger of drowning in the Schörgenhubbad in Linz. A bathing guest pulled the child out of the water. A member of the water rescue team then ensured that the boy was breathing again.

That was a close call: a seven-year-old boy was - as reported - swimming in the Schörgenhubbad in Linz on Saturday morning. He entered the pool via a slide, but was not wearing flotation devices - with fatal consequences, as the toddler went under and never resurfaced.

Parents noticed nothing
According to the police, his parents, who were also in the water and were even in the immediate vicinity of the child, did not notice that their son's life was in danger. However, an attentive swimmer noticed that the boy had not resurfaced. He pulled the little boy out of the water. He was already unconscious.

Successful resuscitation
Elke Halsegger (photo), a sports officer on the regional board of the water rescue service, began resuscitation and quickly got the seven-year-old breathing and conscious again. The lifeguard took over further care until the arrival of the rescue team and the emergency doctor. The boy, who had regained consciousness, was taken to the children's hospital.
