Mother (33) died in a fire in Pongau

A serious fire broke out in Salzburg's Pongau region on Sunday night. A 33-year-old mother died as a result. Her husband and 14-month-old son were taken to hospital with injuries. The cause of the fire was a hotplate that had been switched on.

A 33-year-old mother died in a house fire in Goldegg on Sunday night. Her partner, who was the same age, alerted the emergency services because he was unable to escape from the second floor due to the smoke.

No technical defect
The fire department was able to get all three people out of the house. The child's mother was resuscitated and taken to Schwarzach Hospital, where she died shortly afterwards, the police reported.

The fire started on the ground floor. The 33-year-old father and his 14-month-old son suffered minor injuries from the smoke fumes. The police investigation into the cause of the fire has now been completed. A switched-on hob was identified as the source of the fire.
