DNA analysis: this animal left the bite marks
The man from Feldthurns had been missing since Sunday and died in hospital shortly after his discovery. Bite marks were found on his body. A DNA analysis has now been able to match the marks to an animal.
A 73-year-old South Tyrolean man who was discovered in a field near Brixen on Monday and died shortly afterwards of severe hypothermia was attacked by one or more foxes.
Investigation provides clarity
This was the result of a DNA examination of the bite marks on his body, South Tyrolean media reported on Saturday, citing the public prosecutor's office in Bolzano. It had previously been suspected that a wolf, dog or jackal could have been responsible for the bites.
In any case, the injuries were not the decisive factor in the man's death. They were "rather superficial". An autopsy revealed that the 73-year-old had frozen to death. The Carabinieri had already ruled out violent crime.
