Heidi Horten-Goëss, who died in 2022, left behind art, residences all over the world, private jets and a superyacht. Her heart also beat especially for the animal world. Before her death, she had eleven dogs, five cats and two parrots. What happened to the billionaire's animal estate?
Almost two years after the death of Lake Wörthersee billionaire Heidi Goëss-Horten, many people are wondering what actually happened to her pets. The animal lover and supporter of the Animal Competence Center in Klagenfurt had a total of eleven dogs, five cats and two parrots in her villa in Sekirn.
As "Krone" research has revealed, two cats - "Max" and "Ebony" - are in the Klagenfurt animal shelter. Ten dogs and the two birds have now been taken in by friends and relatives of the billionaire in Spain and Carinthia.
"One of my nieces has taken care of the animals. I'm sure they will want for nothing in their new family in Spain," says Kari Goëss, the husband of the late billionaire. She was particularly fond of her French bulldogs and Labradors.
Pets traveled by private jet
"When she traveled to one of her many residences, she often had the dogs join her," says Hellmuth Reichel, who was her family doctor. Thanks to a private jet, this was no problem at all. The billionaire owned a Gulfstream 650 HB-JKP worth around 70 million dollars. "This aircraft has the longest range of all private jets," says Reichel. The jet was also used for visits to the vet, whether in Vienna or Switzerland.
Cats have found new homes at the animal shelter
In 2019, Heidi Horten-Goëss donated two paintings to the TiKo. One shows the patron with two of her beloved dogs, while the other depicts her parrots. Like her two cats "Max" and "Ebony", they are a reminder of the generous benefactor who covered a third of the construction costs for the animal competence center in 2011. The velvet paws were handed over to the animal shelter after the death of their owner. They have found a new home here. "Ebony", small, gray and well-fed, who struts through her territory day after day, attracts particular attention from visitors.
"Little Ebony is the countess of the shelter," smile the animal keepers. Incidentally, the cat and the red and white tomcat "Max" are not for sale. Heidi's concern for neglected animals was closely linked to her first husband Helmut Horten. The department store billionaire had awakened a love of animals in his wife. And the animal shelter is eternally grateful for Heidi Horten-Goëss' help. The Tiko Competence Center now cares for 1000 a year. Heidi has given 20,000 animals the chance of a new life.
