After an emergency in Graz
Jogger rescues grandpa and baby from the icy Mur
A 51-year-old man and his five-month-old baby fell over an embankment into the River Mur in Graz on Tuesday afternoon. A jogger (36) came to the rescue. It was presumably a medical emergency.
At around 2 p.m., the 36-year-old jogger from the Graz-Umgebung district noticed a man on the Mur cycle path just south of the Puchsteg. The man was in the water near the western bank of the Mur, holding a baby in his arms and looking for help. The 36-year-old woman immediately provided first aid and made an emergency call.
Emergency services from the Red Cross and a police patrol arrived on the banks of the Mur shortly afterwards, and the rescue workers took care of the man and the baby. Although neither had any visible injuries, the Red Cross took them to the regional hospital in Graz and the children's hospital respectively, soaked and hypothermic.
Walk with grandson
As it turned out, the man was a 51-year-old Bosnian from Graz. He was out for a walk with a baby carriage. It seems that he suddenly suffered a medical emergency, whereupon he and his five-month-old baby fell over the embankment into the ice-cold Mur.
