Cigarette thrown out of gondola caused fire
A brief moment of shock on Saturday afternoon in Tyrol! A cigarette thrown out of a ski gondola started a fire on a ski run. On the dry grassy ground and in strong winds, the fire spread to an area of around 100 square meters. Fortunately, the fire department quickly brought the flames under control.
The incident occurred at around 4 p.m. on Saturday in the Oetz ski resort. "In a gondola of the Acherkogelbahn, at an altitude of around 1300 meters, a passenger threw a burning cigarette onto the track," according to the police. Due to the dry conditions and the strong winds prevailing at the time, a fire quickly broke out over an area of around 100 square meters.
No one was injured
The local fire department immediately deployed 25 firefighters and three emergency vehicles. The firefighters were able to extinguish the meadow fire. "At no time were people in danger and there was no significant damage to property," said the executive.
