Austrian zoos donate food to Kiev Zoo

Schönbrunn Zoo and the zoo in Innsbruck donate food to the Ukrainian animals in the zoo. Two trucks brought more than 25 tons across the border to Kiev.

Schönbrunn Zoo and Innsbruck Alpine Zoo have supported a campaign by Berlin Zoological Gardens to help the zoo in war-torn Kiev with a food aid delivery. On Thursday evening, two trucks brought more than 25 tons of dry food for various animal species such as giraffes, elephants, rhinos and birds as well as a mobile X-ray machine to Ukraine. The food at Kiev Zoo was running out and the animals' long-term supply was not guaranteed.

Animals from war zones
Despite the war, the team at Kiev Zoo is doing everything it can to continue caring for the animals. "Almost every week, we receive more animals directly from the war zones, whose condition is often very critical and which we have to nurture as best we can. The relief supplies and donations are urgently needed," said Kyrylo Trantin, Director of the Kiev Zoo, expressing his thanks.
