EU election: Latvian party runs with Ukrainian candidate
The former Latvian ruling party For! is sending a Ukrainian citizen to the EU elections. Ivanna Volochiy, who also holds a Belgian passport, wants to be a "real Ukrainian voice in the European Parliament".
Volochiy, who comes from Ivano-Frankivsk in western Ukraine, is the lead candidate of For This! and has already gained years of experience in various EU institutions in Brussels. "We can work together to ensure a peaceful and successful future for our children," said Volochiy at the presentation of the list of candidates on Monday.
Slogan: "Safe Latvia. Free Ukraine. One Europe"
It is time "for Ukraine to become part of the European family, to which it has always belonged both spiritually and historically", the politician emphasized. Her party is campaigning with the slogan "Safe Latvia. Free Ukraine. One Europe" for the European elections.
The Latvian party's goals include Ukraine's accession to the European Union and NATO. "Everything must be done" to achieve this, they say.
