Brenner highway: 16 injured in a mass crash

There was a pile-up on the Brenner highway between Carpi and Verona on Monday morning. Around 100 vehicles were involved in the pile-up between the Reggiolo (Reggio Emilia) and Carpi (Modena) exits.

According to the emergency services, 16 people were injured in the accidents, three of whom are in mortal danger. Traffic was stopped, the highway was closed and the toll booths from Mantua to Modena were closed.

An accident between trucks shortly after 8 a.m. is believed to have caused the pile-up, with the dense fog being partly responsible. Some people who were trapped in their vehicles were rescued by firefighters.

Two fatalities in Lombardy
Another pile-up occurred on the A21 in Manerbio in the province of Brescia on Monday. Two people died and several others were injured, according to the emergency services. Several vehicles were involved, including two loaded car transporters.
