Barrier broken through: Car crashed into house

Strange accident on Friday evening in Innsbruck: When leaving a parking garage, a 49-year-old local man broke through the closed barrier with his car and crashed into a building opposite after exiting. A mishap is likely to have been the driver's undoing.

The accident happened at around 8 pm. The 49-year-old driver wanted to leave the parking garage and stopped at the closed barrier just before the exit to get some coins out of the glove compartment, according to the police.

Foot hit the gas pedal pedal
"He apparently hit the accelerator pedal with his foot, causing the car to drive through the closed barrier and crash into a building opposite," said the investigators.

Driver slightly injured by impact
The front of the building and the car were severely damaged by the force of the impact. All the airbags inside the vehicle deployed. "The driver suffered minor injuries. He did not seek medical assistance," said the police.
