50-year-old is the first biker of the year to be killed

The year 2024 is still young, but on February 1, in the middle of winter, the first motorcyclist fatality of the year occurred in Upper Austria. In Wels, there was a fatal collision with a car in the evening hours.

After the collision in the Oberthan district of Wels, Red Cross staff tried to resuscitate the victim for some time. However, the rescuers had to give up their efforts at the scene of the accident - the intersection of Vogelweiderstraße and Dimlergutstraße. The 50-year-old could no longer be saved.

Course of the accident still unclear
The course of the accident had not yet been fully clarified by the evening, but it is likely to have happened when turning. Apparently the scooter driver had touched the front of the car and crashed.

Seven more fatalities on motorcycles
In the previous year, 19 of the 74 fatal accident victims in Upper Austria were motorcyclists. That was seven more bikers killed than the year before, although 23 motorcyclists lost their lives in accidents in 2021.
