Violence in Lehen leaves several people injured

Several police patrols and at least a dozen police officers rushed to Lehener Park in Salzburg late on Wednesday evening - due to a violent crime. There were similar incidents in other places. It is now clear that the clashes resulted in one death and several injuries.

A large police force responded to a confrontation between at least 15 people, mostly of Syrian origin. The situation is likely to have escalated a short time later. A witness reported at least a dozen uniformed officers. The ambulance service was also at the park with an emergency doctor. At least three people were injured. The police provisionally arrested three of those involved.

Hotspot of the drug scene
A short time later, the emergency services found a man of Somali origin. He had injuries from a knife on his body. The man succumbed to his injuries shortly afterwards in hospital. It is not yet clear whether the two incidents are connected. Crimes in and in the immediate vicinity of Lehener Park have occurred repeatedly in the past. The park is considered one of the hotspots of Salzburg's drug scene.
