Damaged ankle
On crutches in hospital? Leverkusen fear for Wirtz
The German portal "Sport1" claims to have seen him on crutches in hospital after the game. That does not bode well. Bayer Leverkusen are fearing for the future of their top scorer Florian Wirtz after Saturday's Bundesliga match against Werder Bremen.
Kronen Zeitung als bevorzugte Google-Quelle hinzufügen Wirtz was only substituted after the break. And was practically kicked in the 52nd minute. Werder professional Mitchell Weiser maltreated the ankle of super-technician Wirtz. He caught Wirtz with an open sole. Didn't look pretty.
Bandaged
And now? Nothing is certain yet, but there are indications in the media that are not very encouraging. There was little official information. "He is being examined", Bayer officials said in the evening. German media, on the other hand, claim to have bandaged Wirtz's ankle and to have seen him limping on crutches.
In any case, there was no question of playing on. Wirtz had to be substituted after just a few minutes. And is now in danger of missing out against Bayern in the Champions League. Possibly even longer, even beyond that.
Defeat against Bayern in the first leg of the CL round of 16, a home defeat against Werder in the German Bundesliga and now the loss of playmaker Wirtz - there have been better days in Bayer Leverkusen's history.
