Head-on in the Zillertal: 3-year-old seriously injured

A terrible head-on accident in the Zillertal on Tuesday: a Ukrainian driver drove onto the opposite side of the road and crashed into a German car. The most seriously injured was a three-year-old girl.

At around 2 p.m., the 37-year-old Ukrainian was driving his car from Uderns on the main road heading out of the valley. There was a 32-year-old Russian citizen in the front passenger seat and a three-year-old Czech girl in the back seat.

Suddenly veered to the left
At the same time, a 57-year-old German was driving his car into the valley. A 32-year-old German woman was in the passenger seat. Near Fügen, the 37-year-old crossed into the oncoming lane for unknown reasons and collided with the oncoming car of the 57-year-old.

Girl taken to hospital by helicopter
The consequences: The child suffered serious injuries as a result of the collision and was flown to Kufstein Hospital by rescue helicopter after receiving first aid from the ambulance. The 57-year-old German suffered minor injuries and was taken to Schwaz Hospital after first aid by the ambulance.

All other occupants remained uninjured. The main road was closed until 4.30 pm. A rescue helicopter, an emergency doctor, two ambulances, the road maintenance team and four police patrols were deployed.
