Justice Minister Zadic is back in office from Monday

Justice Minister Alma Zadić (Greens) will return to office on Monday. She had her second child on 6 December and was replaced by Social Affairs and Health Minister Johannes Rauch (Greens) during her maternity leave.

During her first maternity leave at the beginning of 2021, the minister was replaced by Green Party leader Werner Kogler. She also returned to office after just under two months.

"Dear Alma, as a minister you are a guarantor of an independent judiciary. I will represent you with great care in your spirit," wrote Johannes Rauch on Instagram in December. At the time, he thanked her for her "great work", "valuable friendship" and "trust". He presented her with rompers with the inscription "Mama is the best", as can be seen in a video.

There are no real maternity protection and parental leave regulations for female politicians in Austria. The provisions of the Maternity Protection Act do not apply to members of government, members of parliament or mayors. The reason for this is that a political mandate is not an employment or service relationship.
