Sarah Michelle Gellar is returning as the legendary vampire slayer! According to reports, the actress is in the final stages of negotiations for a "Buffy - Under the Spell of Demons" reboot.

The cult vampire series, which was created by Joss Whedon and aired from 1997 to 2003, is set to return for a sequel on Hulu. According to "E! News", the as yet untitled revival is described by 20th Television and Searchlight TV as "the next chapter in the Buffyverse".

Recurring role
According to US media reports, it is more than likely that Sarah Michelle Gellar will reprise her role as Buffy Summers - more than two decades after the original series ended.

According to Variety, however, the upcoming project will not focus on the original title character, but on a new slayer. Gellar will therefore appear as a recurring Buffy character and not as the leading actress.

Gellar is also expected to executive produce alongside Gail Berman and Dolly Parton, who were all executive producers on the original series.

"Would need a lot of plastic surgery"
Gellar herself recently explained that a new edition of "Buffy" would need a younger star in the leading role. The 47-year-old joked to the British "HELLO!" magazine: "It's been 20 years, so I'd need a lot of plastic surgery!"

Looking back, she revealed: "I don't know if I would play her any differently. Buffy is such a beautiful character - that never changes. But I think they'll go for someone younger when she comes back."
