Owner charged after being bitten by his Rottweiler

Following the bloody Rottweiler attack on two girls (6 and 10 years old) on New Year's Day in Kirchberg ob der Donau, the charges against the Mühlviertel dog owner are now complete. The trial date has been set for March 5 at the Linz Regional Court.

It is about negligent bodily harm in two cases. The dog attacked two girls. The one who had been playing with him suffered a minor bite wound and a bruise. The second child was seriously injured. "The sentence is up to two years", says Ulrike Breiteneder, spokesperson for the Linz public prosecutor's office, about the Rottweiler attack on January 1st in Kirchberg ob der Donau, which caused quite a stir.

Two young victims
Rottweiler "Ernie" reportedly attacked two children. At around 1.50 p.m., a ten-year-old girl had been carrying out training exercises with her father's Rottweiler behind the house. The accident happened when a six-year-old girl from the neighborhood ran past them.

During the interrogation, the dog owner described how he found out from his daughter what had happened. She had often been out with the dog. The trial will show whether he is also guilty.

The four-legged friend suddenly took aim at the girl's fur collar and bit her on the shoulder, upper arm and lower leg. When the ten-year-old tried to chase the dog away, she was also bitten. The six-year-old suffered serious injuries. She was flown by emergency helicopter to the University Hospital in Linz, where she received a total of nine stitches and was out of action for a good three weeks.

Under observation
It is not yet clear what will happen to Rottweiler "Ernie", according to the responsible district authority in Rohrbach. The four-legged friend is currently at the Freistadt animal shelter, where he is being examined by experts.
