Princess Beatrice has given birth to a daughter

Joy in the English royal family: Princess Beatrice has given birth to a daughter, Athena Elizabeth Rose. Mother and daughter are doing well, dad Edo and siblings Sienna and Wolfie are already completely smitten with her.

"Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi, who was born at 12:57pm on Wednesday 22 January," reads a statement from Buckingham Palace. The baby weighed around 2 kilograms at birth.

The King and Queen and other members of the royal family have all been informed and are delighted with the news, according to the statement.

"Completely smitten with her"
"Princess Beatrice and Mr. Mapelli Mozzi would like to thank the entire hospital staff for their wonderful care. Her Royal Highness and her daughter are healthy and well, and the family is enjoying time together with Athena's older siblings Wolfie and Sienna."

The proud father, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, posted on Instagram that his newborn daughter was "tiny and absolutely perfect". He added: "We are all (including Wolfie and Sienna) already smitten with her. Our hearts are overflowing with love for you, baby Athena."

Athena's aunt, Princess Eugenie, posted the baby news on her Instagram story and wrote: "Welcome little girl."

Number eleven in line to the throne
Athena Elizabeth is the second child of Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, making her the eleventh in line to the throne. Their first child together, daughter Sienna, was born in 2021. 

Beatrice is the daughter of the Queen's second eldest son, Prince Andrew, and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson. Her husband Edoardo has a son from a previous relationship.
