Forced off the road: Bus crashes into transformer house

A serious accident occurred in Vienna-Liesing on Thursday involving a Wiener Linien bus that was traveling on behalf of Wiener Lokalbahnen. A van suddenly forced the bus off the road, causing it to crash into a transformer house without braking.

The bus driver had probably not expected this when he started work on Thursday - after the serious accident, his bus is likely to be a total loss.

At around 4.30 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, the bus was on its usual route in Vienna-Liesing when a van suddenly cut it off, explained Michael Unger, press spokesman for Wiener Lokalbahnen. The driver had overlooked a stop sign, which inevitably led to a collision.

Due to the speed of both vehicles, they were apparently unable to come to an immediate stop. The Wiener Linien bus crashed into a transformer house with full force. The front of the bus was severely dented (see picture above).

Both the ambulance service and the police were on the scene to document the accident and attend to those involved. Fortunately, there were not many passengers on the bus - they were only slightly injured.

The three occupants of the bus, the bus driver and the driver of the car were lucky and did not suffer any serious injuries. "They were only slightly injured," Michael Unger told krone.at. Emergency services from the Vienna Professional Rescue Service treated the victims on the spot and then took them to various hospitals in Vienna. The exact cause of the accident is still being investigated. Both vehicles and the damaged fence sustained considerable material damage.
