Police operation in Lower Austria: Cobra storm a house

On Thursday, the Cobra special police unit carried out an operation in Vösendorf (Lower Austria). According to the police, it was a planned operation in which several armed officers stormed a residential building. The background to the operation was announced on Friday.

The Vienna police were reluctant to give details of the operation on Thursday. Police spokesman David Pawlik merely stated that the operation had indeed taken place and that it was a property crime.

The exact nature of the offense was not initially disclosed. On Friday, the police confirmed that the Vienna State Criminal Police Office has been investigating a group of perpetrators from Serbia since December 2024.

Numerous thefts in Austria
The criminal group is suspected of having committed numerous burglaries in Austria. In particular, the focus was on two burglaries in several residential buildings in Lower Austria, in which a safe containing a firearm was allegedly stolen. In the course of the investigations, the safe was found in a wooded area and seized.

Four suspects arrested
Following an intensive investigation and evaluation of evidence, four suspects aged between 31 and 43 from Serbia were arrested on Thursday. Officers apprehended three of them in a bar in Vienna-Liesing. The fourth person was arrested in Lower Austria by the Cobra task force after the apartment was opened.

Stolen property - including jewelry, cash and electrical appliances - as well as burglary tools were seized. The group is suspected of having committed over 20 burglaries in Vienna and Lower Austria. Further investigations are ongoing.
