Amok alarm: large-scale operation at Berlin elementary school

An amok alarm was triggered at an elementary school in the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district of Berlin on Friday afternoon. The pupils were evacuated from the building. After two hours, the police gave the all-clear: it was probably a false alarm. 

Late on Friday afternoon, the Berlin police were alerted to an elementary school in the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district of Berlin. According to German media reports, the emergency call had been pressed on two alarm systems specially set up for amok situations in the school.

Pupils evacuated from the building
At the time of the alarm, several pupils were still in the building, as the school has an after-school care center that is open until 6 pm. The pupils were evacuated by the SEK special unit.

A large contingent of police, including riot police specially trained for such situations, searched the building "room by room", according to the Berlin police.

All-clear after two hours
Whether it was a false alarm or whether there was actually someone suspicious in the school building was not clear at first. At least there were no indications of a perpetrator. About two hours later, the all-clear was given: it was probably a false alarm. The police have not ruled out the possibility of a technical fault.
