Blind trust paid dearly: 100,000 euros gone

A Tyrolean woman was coldly ripped off by a supposedly good web acquaintance. The unknown perpetrator tricked the 29-year-old into investing in cryptocurrency. The woman forked out more than 100,000 euros. However, she transferred the money to a fake platform.

The 29-year-old from the Innsbruck-Land district had already met a man via a dating app in mid-October. The local woman must have blindly trusted the web acquaintance relatively quickly. And that was the woman's undoing.

Money ended up on a fake platform
The stranger had explained to her how she could earn a lot of money by trading cryptocurrencies. He enticed her to register on a website and invest in cryptocurrencies. "However, the 29-year-old transferred the money to the wrong platform," said the police.

Error messages suddenly appeared
In November and December, the 29-year-old transferred money to various crypto addresses several times. "When the woman tried to get the money back via the supposed investment platform, she received error messages," the investigators continued. 

The woman has now filed a complaint with the police. The money - a low six-figure sum in euros - is gone.
