Audi recall: 60,000 cars have to go to the workshop

Audi is recalling over 600,000 vehicles worldwide. Several models are affected due to emission defects.

The models affected include the A4, A5, A6, A7, A8 and the Q5 and Q7 SUVs, which were built between 2010 and 2017. The recall is due to defects in the exhaust gas recirculation system and unauthorized defeat devices. A large number of vehicles have to be sent to the workshop for extensive repairs.

Two recalls
As reported by "Auto Motor und Sport", there are two separate recalls. In the first recall, 262,264 vehicles have to return to the workshop. This concerns the non-EU-compliant thermal window in the exhaust gas recirculation system, which switches off at certain temperatures and leads to increased emissions. A software update is intended to adapt the EGR system to the legal requirements.

Costs of repairs will be covered
The second recall covers 342,179 vehicles from the years 2005 to 2020. This is due to unauthorized defeat devices and restrictions in exhaust gas purification. These vehicles also require extensive repairs in the workshops. The Federal Motor Transport Authority has informed all affected vehicle owners that the repairs can be carried out free of charge at Audi workshops.

Vehicle owners should take the request for repairs seriously. Failure to do so could result in the vehicle being taken out of service. Audi wants to carry out all work as quickly as possible. The legal requirements are to be met and the environmental impact reduced.
