The Chamber of Labor has taken a close look at the costs of emergency trades services in Vienna. Travel costs and helpers often add to the price. If you need them outside business hours, at the weekend or on a public holiday, you have to pay a lot more.

The prices* for tradesmen have risen sharply in some cases compared to the previous year.

The biggest jump was among glaziers: The cost of an hour's skilled work rose by around twelve percent on average.

You should bear this in mind when calling a tradesman or emergency service:

• Be careful with travel costs: remember that the hourly rate is charged for both travel and working time. It is better to choose a tradesman in your area and compare prices.
• Beware of emergency services: First-ranked providers on search engines are not always the best, especially if the prices are suspiciously low. Consider whether the damage can wait until the next working day. Ideally, make a note of the contact details of trustworthy tradespeople before the damage occurs.
