Man must answer for attempted murder

The 25-year-old man who allegedly stabbed his girlfriend (22) five times with a kitchen knife in Linz-Ebelsberg must now answer for attempted murder. The woman only just survived.

The scenes that took place in Linz-Ebelsberg at the end of August were dramatic. A 25-year-old Serbian man allegedly stabbed his girlfriend (22) five times with a 20-centimeter-long kitchen knife. The woman saved herself in a house, covered in blood, and the man inflicted cuts on himself. 

Victim only just survived
The 22-year-old only survived thanks to emergency surgery and the man has been in custody ever since. However, charges have now been brought against the man. The man will have to defend himself on the charge of attempted murder, as Ulrike Breiteneder, spokeswoman for the Linz public prosecutor's office, confirmed in a report by ORF Upper Austria.

Up to 20 years in prison
If convicted, the man faces between 10 and 20 years in prison. There is no trial date yet because there is a two-week appeal period. The trial will therefore probably not take place until the new year.
