Syrian man arrested after series of burglaries

In order to finance his drug addiction, a 47-year-old Syrian is said to have committed nine burglaries and several thefts. The police tracked down the suspected perpetrator using surveillance videos from a cigarette vending machine. 

Successful investigation for Salzburg's criminal investigation department: Between mid-August and mid-October, a 47-year-old Syrian is alleged to have committed nine burglaries and several thefts. The perpetrator, who is still unknown, broke into apartments through open windows and stole cash, ATM cards and identity documents.

The detectives were always able to secure the same shoe marks at the various crime scenes. In addition, the same perpetrator appears to have committed several shopliftings. And he used a stolen ATM card to make purchases from a cigarette machine. A surveillance camera filmed the man.

Finally, on October 15, a witness observed a man trying to steal a bicycle and called the police. The thief was a Syrian living in Salzburg: the shoe prints matched the burglaries. He also had a stolen ATM card with him. The 47-year-old confessed and stated that his motive was drug addiction. He was transferred to Salzburg prison.
