Car chase: driver flees via roadworks

A driver fled from the police in Vienna-Donaustadt on Friday evening after breaking traffic rules several times. The vehicle came to a halt at a roadworks site and the driver fled on foot. The passenger who stayed behind stated that he only knew the suspect in passing.

During a routine patrol on Friday evening in Vienna-Donaustadt, police officers observed a vehicle that had violated traffic regulations several times. When the police tried to stop the driver, he suddenly accelerated and fled. According to the police, the driver is said to have committed further administrative offenses.

A passer-by saved herself by jumping to the side
During his escape, the driver also endangered a pedestrian with her dog, who was only able to save herself by jumping to the side - fortunately, she was unharmed. The vehicle finally came to a halt at a roadworks gate, whereupon the driver fled on foot.

Escape despite warning shots
An officer fired warning shots into the ground without endangering anyone or anything. Nevertheless, the suspect escaped across the extensive construction site. An immediate manhunt on Friday evening was unsuccessful. A 32-year-old passenger, who remained in the vehicle, stated that he "only knew the fleeing driver in passing". The investigation is ongoing.
