Amazon ends “Fresh” delivery service in Germany

Amazon is discontinuing its grocery delivery service "Fresh" in Germany. The service in the cities of Berlin, Hamburg and Munich will end on December 14, said a spokeswoman for the company. After more than seven years, the US company is thus drawing a line under its efforts to establish the service.

"We have evaluated our offering and logistics network in Germany and have decided to simplify our grocery offering on Amazon.de and focus on our extensive and growing perishables business," said the spokesperson. "Amazon Fresh" was launched in Germany in 2017. 

Amazon recently announced a partnership with Knuspr. The retailer is part of the Czech Rohlik Group, which operates under the name Gurkerl in Germany. Following the launch in the greater Berlin area, Amazon Prime customers in the Rhine-Main region and Munich will also be able to be supplied with fresh products from December.

According to the company, the Knuspr range includes more than 15,000 products at supermarket prices. This includes fresh, chilled and frozen products as well as drugstore items. Amazon also cooperates with the retail company Tegut in Germany. In the USA, the company operates its own "Amazon Fresh" supermarkets
