Transfer to Schalke “doesn’t feel right”

Anthony Modeste will not be moving to FC Schalke 04! As the former Cologne and Dortmund striker told Sky, a move to the "miners" doesn't feel right. 

"I have turned FC Schalke down. I got to know the people in charge and had great, trusting talks with the coach and Ben Manga. I was shown a clear direction and plans that inspired me a lot. I thought about it for a long time, but my gut feeling made the decision. As a Cologne native and former Dortmund player, a move to Schalke doesn't feel right," said Modeste, explaining his decision. 

Egypt adventure under Koller
The Frenchman first moved to FC Cologne in 2015 and quickly became one of the most feared goalscorers in the German Bundesliga in the cathedral city. His move to Borussia Dortmund in 2022, however, proved to be a flop and Modeste left the Black & Yellows after just one season to join Marcel Koller's Al-Ahly in Egypt.

The now 36-year-old did not last long there either, and the striker has been without a club since July. Although he feels honored that Schalke is interested in his services, he believes a move to Dortmund's arch-rivals would be the wrong step, according to Modeste.
