Get off to a flying start with an apprenticeship at ÖBB

Austrian Federal Railways is not only one of Austria's largest employers, but also trains around 600 new apprentices every year. The technology of the future is being shaped here in 14 technical (basic) apprenticeships and seven specific railroad professions. 

The training of apprentices has long been a matter close to ÖBB's heart - the first boilermaker was trained in Knittelfeld, Styria, over 128 years ago in 1895. Since then, not only the type of training has changed, but also the number of apprentices. Since then, ÖBB has been able to establish itself as one of the largest training providers in Austria. This September alone, around 700 apprentices will start their training at ÖBB. 

Women's power wanted
With 21 percent of the approximately 2,100 apprentices in the entire Group, ÖBB is at the forefront when it comes to promoting women in technical professions. However, ÖBB is not yet satisfied with this. By participating in the Vienna Daughters' Day and the Girls' Day in the other federal states, the company wants to get even more young women interested in the world of rail. ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG also takes part in regional networking events to make women in STEM fields more visible to the general public. When an apprentice starts as a female employee, care is also taken to ensure that the prospective female colleagues can break down the inhibition threshold to the previously male-dominated railroad areas through introductory programs.

As someone who is to lead ÖBB into the future, you can expect not only top-level training, but also an attractive salary of up to 957 euros in the first year of your apprenticeship, which can increase to up to 1862 euros at the end of your apprenticeship. You can find more information HERE.

Apprenticeship with Matura, internships abroad and much more
