A 67-year-old woman was stabbed to death with a knife in an apartment building in the Salzburg municipality of Adnet on Tuesday evening. A large-scale police operation was launched during the night. A search is still underway for the perpetrator.

A helicopter circled over the residential area in Waidach and search dogs were also called in. The Cobra special unit was also deployed.

The reason: the body of a woman was found in an apartment building in Adnet. According to the police, she was probably killed with a knife.

A person wanted by the police in connection with the death of the 67-year-old German woman has been on the run since Tuesday night. "The manhunt is underway", the police said in an initial statement.

A resident of the house reported the discovery of a body to the police on Tuesday evening. All that is known so far is that the woman who was killed is a German citizen. It is not yet known what connection she has to the fugitive.

Forensic experts began their work during the night. Investigations by the State Office of Criminal Investigation are underway. The Salzburg public prosecutor's office ordered an autopsy of the body to determine the exact cause of death.
