Terminally ill ex-Rapid goalie and his last game

Georg Koch, goalkeeper at SK Rapid for nine games in the 2009 season, is terminally ill with pancreatic cancer. On Saturday, the 51-year-old wants to really enjoy soccer, his great passion, one last time.

It is Georg Koch's personal farewell match. His home club VfR Marienfeld will face the traditional team from Fortuna Düsseldorf in a charity match in aid of the St. Augustin children's cancer charity. "A cancer diagnosis is always terrible. But for me it still makes a difference whether a child has the disease or an adult like me," said Koch, who organized the match, in an interview with "Bild".

In addition to former professional footballers and companions of Koch, a number of Fortuna legends will be present. Among others, Sven Demandt, Mike Rietpitsch, Thorsten Judt, Rudi Istenic and also coach Friedhelm Funkel will be in attendance.

"Probably the last time I'll see them"
"I'm already aware that this will probably be the last time I see many old companions who mean a lot to me. That's why I'll try to soak up every moment of this day, enjoy it and remember it," said Koch.
