At the age of 30, he ended his career at the height of his creative powers, at 35 he is now daring to make a comeback and at around 36, it could all be over again - ski superstar Marcel Hirscher has hinted in an aside that he could end his active career after just one more season, but this time for good!

As the man from Salzburg, who will be competing for the Dutch Ski Association this year and no longer for Austria, explained in a ServusTV interview, he sees his comeback season as "the end of my first career".

At the World Cup final of the 2018/19 season, he did not know that he would no longer be racing. "So I've never had a farewell year. Maybe it will be this year, because the project is only designed for one year. It was never meant to be longer," says Hirscher. However, he leaves himself a small loophole: "Never say never ..."

The winner of 67 World Cup races did not reveal any specific goals in the interview. "I don't have anything in mind. I now have to see week by week, day by day, where the journey will ultimately take me."

However, his journey should definitely take him to the World Championships in Saalbach-Hinterglemm. "I believe that I will manage to qualify for the World Championships: Because I'm alone in the Dutch Ski Association. Taking part in a World Ski Championships in Austria is simply awesome. I'm looking forward to it!"
