Microsoft plans new data centers in northern Italy

New data centers for the cloud: US software company Microsoft is planning to invest billions of euros in Italy to strengthen its infrastructure for artificial intelligence (AI) and the cloud.

Microsoft has announced plans to invest a total of 4.3 billion euros in northern Italy over the next two years. The US company intends to use the funds to expand the ItalyNorth cloud region into one of the largest Microsoft data centers in Europe.

Microsoft President Brad Smith met with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Rome on Wednesday, according to Meloni's office. The government welcomes investments that strengthen Italy's digital role in the Mediterranean region.
