Graz: Drunk driver (19) on the road without a license

Turbulent scenes unfolded on the A9 motorway near Graz on Sunday: a 19-year-old evaded a vehicle stop and fled. It later turned out why: the man was drunk and did not have a valid driving license.

On Sunday, police officers from the Gleinalm highway police station carried out location checks on the A9 (ramp B) at Gratkorn Süd in the direction of Slovenia. Using arm signals, they wanted to stop a car driven by a 19-year-old from the Graz-Umgebung district at around midnight.

However, the 19-year-old disregarded the stop sign, accelerated his vehicle and drove onto the highway. The police immediately took up the pursuit. The fugitive was finally stopped by a Graz police patrol in Wiener Straße.

Car keys taken away immediately
During the arrest, the police officers discovered that the 19-year-old did not have a valid driving license. A breathalyzer test revealed that he was slightly intoxicated.

The man will be reported to the police. The car keys were taken from him on the spot.
