Shots fired at ex’s house from a high seat: arrest

A 44-year-old man is said to have fired several times at his ex-girlfriend's house in eastern Styria - from a high seat around 100 meters away. He then fled on a motorcycle, stowing the rifle in a guitar case. But he didn't get far.

The scenes took place shortly before 5 p.m. on Saturday in Hartl in the Hartberg-Fürstenfeld district. Witnesses had observed the man firing several shots at the house of his 29-year-old ex-girlfriend. They were able to clearly identify him using binoculars and called the police.

Arrest by Cobra
Several patrols set off in pursuit of the gunman, and the Cobra task force was also involved. After a short time, a police patrol was able to contact the fugitive, who made a "noticeably drunk" impression on the officers. A short time later, Cobra forces arrested the suspect at his home address and a test revealed that he was moderately intoxicated.

Only wanted to aim at a tree
The man confessed to firing the shot when questioned, but he only wanted to have aimed at a tree. Police officers confiscated several firearms and ammunition registered to the 44-year-old and issued a temporary weapons ban against him. The man was also banned from entering and approaching the premises.

The 44-year-old is currently in custody. Further investigations are underway.
