Housing association looking for a plot of land

The housing association "GeWiK" is looking for a suitable location. An existing property is preferred. The residents are involved in the planning and the provision of ideas right from the start.

Shared living seems to have become a rarity today. In recent decades, more and more detached houses and single households have been built. The result: urban sprawl, land consumption, rising housing costs, but also loneliness in old age. To counteract these trends, the "Verein gemeinschaftlich Wohnen in Kärnten" has decided to create a communal housing complex.

The key data for the search for a suitable location: up to 4000m² of usable living space for around 30 residential units on 1.2 hectares of building land - if possible with an existing property to minimize land consumption and public transport links as well as footpaths and cycle paths to avoid car journeys. "We want to create liveable and affordable living space for people at different stages of life, with private retreats as well as communal areas," explains Monika Brenner-Skazedonig from GeWiK.

The association, which has been working on the project for a year, is the first recipient of the state's building group funding. "Especially in the initial phase, a project like this is a challenge. The funding is intended to make this easier," says Angelika Fritzl, Head of Department 11.
