Several train drivers sick: rail traffic at a standstill

Bad news for passengers on the Außerfernbahn: trains will not be running for days on the Deutsche Bahn-operated line between Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Reutte in Tirol and Pfronten-Steinach. Construction work is not the reason. This is much more curious.

"Due to several sickness reports from our train drivers, all trains on the Garmisch-Partenkirchen - Reutte - Pfronten-Steinach route will unfortunately have to be canceled from Thursday up to and including September 4," a spokeswoman for the railroad explained to the "Krone" newspaper.

Replacement service with buses
As an emergency measure, a replacement bus service has been set up. Passengers should enquire about departure times and stops on the railroad's channels before starting their journey. "We apologize to passengers for the restrictions," the spokesperson continued.

Construction work follows emergency measure
But even after this interim solution has been implemented, trains will not be running on the line any time soon. This is because from 5 September (until 13 September), scheduled construction work between Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Pfronten-Steinach is on the agenda. "Even then, there will be a rail replacement service," concludes the spokesperson.
