Austrian woman (71) died on the beach in Jesolo

An Austrian woman (71) died on the beach in the northern Italian resort of Jesolo on Monday. Other bathers brought her to the shore and raised the alarm - but to no avail.

The pensioner had gone into the sea shortly after 11 a.m. to cool off and suddenly collapsed. Other bathers noticed the incident, rushed over and brought the woman to the shore. After raising the alarm, lifeguards and a professional nurse arrived at the scene of the accident, reported the Jesolo coastguard. An ambulance was also present.

However, despite resuscitation efforts, all help came too late for the 71-year-old. She had been on the beach with relatives.
