Mountaineer falls to his death on Kasereck

A 40-year-old Styrian fell to his death on the Kasereck in the Schladminger Tauern on Sunday. Mountain rescuers set out on a search operation during the night. But there was no more help for the man. 

"Twelve mountain rescuers set off in the direction of Kasereck during the night," reports Roland Bock, head of operations at the Tamsweg local office. A rescue helicopter team from Carinthia (RK1) and the Carinthia Dragonfly team were also involved in the night-time search operation.

"Due to rain, fog and darkness, however, we had to abort the search operation for the safety of our emergency services. We resumed the search at 4.30 a.m. and found the Styrian. He had suffered a fatal fall in extremely steep and rocky terrain," says Bock.

The Tamsweg mountain rescuers recovered the body and prepared it for transport by the Salzburg Libelle police helicopter team. The investigation into the course of the accident is ongoing. "The Styrian was poorly equipped and not an experienced mountaineer," the police report states.
