"St. Wolfgang im Salzkammergut, ÖWR operation - person missing in the water" This message went online at 3.28 pm on the homepage of the Upper Austrian Fire Brigade Association. Three fire departments arrived and a major search operation was launched. In the meantime, divers in St. Gilgen, more precisely in the district of Ried, have found the drowned person ten meters from the shore.

"The person was found by the divers ten meters from the shore, at a depth of around five meters," reports Markus Gewolf from the Salzburg Water Rescue Service, which is responsible for Lake Wolfgangsee. 

The drowning victim was a 24-year-old Turkish man living in Styria. The man's friends who were present had to be looked after on site by a crisis intervention team.
