Car crashes into chapel: passenger (17) dead

Tragic traffic accident in St. Egyden am Steinfeld (Lower Austria): A 21-year-old driver was probably driving too fast, his vehicle was thrown through the ditch and then crashed into a chapel. The 17-year-old passenger was killed.

The 21-year-old Romanian was driving with two other passengers on the LB26 towards Wiener Neustadt at around 3.40 p.m. on Wednesday. The young men were probably traveling too fast and the driver eventually lost control of his car.

Thrown 200 meters through the ditch
The 21-year-old left the road with the car and was thrown 200 meters through the ditch, then the passenger side of the vehicle crashed into the wall of St. John's Chapel. The 17-year-old passenger was trapped in the car and had to be freed by the emergency services. He died at the scene of the accident.

The second passenger had to be taken to hospital by rescue helicopter and the driver by ambulance. Both escaped with minor injuries. The road had to be closed to all traffic until 6 pm.
